Even a perfect recording won't make you a whole person
Like I think a lot of us, I have extensive experience with my sense of self-worth being unhealthily tied up with how good I perceive myself at being at making music.
I just wanted to mention that, and I wanted to say this directly, to anyone who might need to hear it today: you’re a good person, and you’re worthy of love, even if you’re currently struggling with some music you’re working on.
Anyone who has the audacity to try and create something out of nothing — or to support and abet someone else’s act of creation — is a superhuman. Everyone reading this should celebrate themselves for this bold and brave action that you are taking in the world.
Pro Tools is amazing, but it can’t fix the past. And working on music can be healing — but only if you give yourself a lot of grace in the process.
With love — jamie
