Removing ego from my work

Because I’m human, I have ego. I work on this constantly, but I will probably never be completely clear of it. Which means that I have to be constantly careful not to let ego come into my work.

Here are a few questions I’m asking myself constantly as I work:

• Am I making this change because the song needs it, or because I feel a need to exert influence?

• Am I approaching this song from a perspective of service, or of control?

• Do I feel proprietary about the work I am doing on this song? If so, why? Is that healthy?

• Am I holding this song tightly or loosely?

• How am I feeling in my body when I am working on this song?

• Do I feel nervous or anxious about working on this song? Why?
